Are you planning an Isle of Wight visit during your stay with us? Here’s how to travel there when staying at the Cottage Lodge Hotel in the New Forest.

Here’s the information that you will need to make the most of your day trip. Or if you’d like to plan a short stay with the hotel as your base. You can travel taking your car on the ferry, or as a foot passenger with public transport links. Either way, your journey begins at the Cottage Lodge hotel in beautiful Brockenhurst, the heart of the New Forest.

Getting there from the hotel

From Brockenhurst, the most convenient way to travel to the Isle of Wight is via the ferry. You can take the ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth.

You can drive to Lymington in just under 15 minutes from the hotel. Alternatively, you catch the bus to Lymington, or as we suggest, catching the train from Brockenhurst. The main station to reach the island is Lymington pier. This brings you right up to the ferry terminal to board as foot passengers and visit with Wightlink.

Travelling as foot passengers

To visit the Isle of Wight as a foot passenger, you can arrive via ferry and take a bus at Yarmouth. For bus time tables for the whole island, please visit www.islandbuses.info. There are regular buses throughout the year, however less frequently in the colder months

In the spring/summer season, there are great links from the end of March through September.

West Wight Wanderer

South West Trains, Wightlink Ferries and Southern Vectis buses on the island have teamed together. This offers a combination travel deal across the public transport links and is cheaper than purchasing separate tickets. This enables you to travel to the most popular tourist destinations on the West of the island.

Visit the needles at Alum bay and see the different coloured sand. Or take time to tour the Isle of Wight glass making factory. You can see how the unique glass is still created using tradition glass blowing methods.

Enjoy the microclimate

The Isle of Wight enjoys more hours of sunshine than the national average. It benefits from a unique microclimate that is perfect for plants and makes gorgeous gardens.

Marvel at the Mediterranean planting at Mottistone Garden or sub-tropical Ventnor Botanic Garden.

The weather not only makes islanders happier, it does wonders for the food too. You can virtually taste the sunshine in the fruit and vegetables that they grow, brew and rear here.
