The New Forest is a fantastic place to go for a horse ride. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned rider, young or old, you can book yourself horse riding over the ancient lands of the New Forest. Stay at Cottage Lodge and enjoy our fantastic location for a great getaway !
What can you expect?
On offer is riding amongst the wild ponies on the forest greens and into the woodlands and forest tracks. If you are lucky you might spot wild deer or the other animals and birds that thrive in the wonderful New Forest National Park. A truly magical way to enjoy the tranquility, wildlife and beauty of the New Forest from the most beautiful vantage point on horseback.
Choose your type of ride
When you book up for horse riding lessons or choose to book forest rides in the New Forest National Park. The great local stables can offer a selection of opportunities with experienced teams to guide you.
Most of our local stables will offer 1 and 2 hour rides, as well as special rides with a lead rein for new riders, all with direct access into the New Forest. Everyone is catered for from the complete beginner to the more advanced rider. Everybody is welcome from young children to a maximum weight limit of 20 stones (127 kg) .
Beginners can book onto gentle, walk and jog forest trails with a choice of Western or traditional English saddle. More experienced riders can book to ride into the National Park especially on midweek private hacks.
Book your horse riding
Whilst staying at Cottage Lodge you can book horse riding in the New Forest for you and your family from some fantastic stables nearby. The three most popular are Brockenhurst Riding stables which is situated a 15 minute stroll from the hotel. Ford Farm which you can also walk to and is approximately 10 minutes from us. A short 10 minute drive from Brockenhurst, is Burley Villa in the nearby village of Bashley. Please book your horse riding directly with the stables.
Please note weekends and bank holidays are their busiest times, so booking in advance is advisable to avoid disappointment. Also due to health and safety, licence and insurance requirements, riders will only be allowed to canter if they ride to specific stable standards.
